East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust will be replacing the existing Urgent Care Centre and Children’s Minor Illness Unit (CMIU) at Burnley General Hospital with an Integrated Urgent Care Centre (IUCC) on the site which will also include a GP out-of-hours service in line with the strategic direction of the Pennine Lancashire Unscheduled Care Group.
Kier Construction has been selected as the Trust’s principal supply chain partner to deliver the building which is set to open in the autumn of 2013.
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust director of estates and facilities, Martin Morgan, said: "I am delighted that the robust selection procedure undertaken as part of the ProCure21+ process has led to the selection of Kier Construction as our partner to deliver the new unit. The timescales we have set ourselves are challenging but the progress we have made to date has been good. The new facility represents the Trust’s continued commitment to the development of the Burnley General Hospital site and I look forward to working with Kier Construction in providing the quality building and environment we need for the patients, visitors and staff in East Lancashire."
