Residents will soon enjoy a new supermarket, restaurants and cafes alongside hundreds of new homes after councillors gave the thumbs up to a planning application for the next stage of the multi million-pound regeneration of Centenary Quay, Southampton.
Members of Southampton City Council's Planning and Rights of Way Panel approved Crest Nicholson's planning application for the third phase of the project, which is already bringing new homes, a library and a day nursery to the former Vosper-Thorneycroft shipyard.
Phase three will include 329 residential units, a supermarket, cafes, restaurants and a public plaza creating an attractive leisure and amenity area and continuing to regenerate the area for all to enjoy.
Crest Nicholson Regeneration's Managing Director Debbie Aplin said: "We'd like to thank councillors for approving this important application for the third phase of Centenary Quay. This is an important phase of the development as it includes 329 new homes, of which 72 are affordable, alongside the new supermarket and public plaza with bars and cafes continuing the regeneration of the area. These aspects of the proposals gained substantial support at the public exhibition where it was recognised that they will support the local economy and increase the diversity of the retail offering in Woolston.
"We maintain the commitment of all parties concerned; the Homes and Communities Agency, the local authority, local registered housing providers and ourselves to the community of Woolston and Southampton. We are excited and look forward to completing the overall redevelopment of Centenary Quay."
