Work by Kier Construction on a £2.6 million refurbishment of the leisure centre at Marl Pits is progressing well.
To mark the completion of the installation of the roof trusses, the Kier site team invited Rossendale Borough Council leader, Alyson Barnes, and Rossendale Leisure Trust board member, Yvette Cairns, to tighten the final bolts as the last truss was put into place.
When complete the new development, which will increase the venue’s floor space from 1,082sq m to 1,694sq m, will include a state-of-the-art fitness suite with 45 stations, four all-weather, multi-use sports pitches and much improved changing areas. Office accommodation and a new reception area are also included in the design.
Cllr Barnes said: "This £2.6m investment into the valley is another tangible example of the council’s focus on regenerating Rossendale, in this case through the biggest ever investment into first class leisure facilities."
The leisure trust is already taking individual and corporate enquiries about membership.
