Housing association Grŵp Gwalia has appointed Lovell to deliver a £1.4 million contract to create 19 new homes for social rent in Swansea.
Lovell recently started construction work on the 12-month scheme at the site of the former Margaret Street Nursery in Wallace Road, St Thomas. The construction team will build 19 flats for rent through Grŵp Gwalia.
Homes will meet Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes – the rating system which measures the energy-efficiency of new housing. The contract was awarded to Lovell through a competitive tendering process via the Gorwel Construction Framework.
Stuart Davies, executive director of property development and management at Gwalia, said: "Our development on the site of the former Margaret Street nursery will revitalise brownfield land in this really popular residential area near Swansea city centre. It’s a great site with fantastic views over the new SA1 waterfront development and out to Mumbles Head.
"We're delighted to be using our expertise in delivering high-quality, energy-efficient housing to help create these new flats for Grŵp Gwalia," said Lovell regional director Nick Kurobasa.
