Tunnel design engineer Kate Cooksey from Morgan Sindall is celebrating after being awarded a place on Management Today's prestigious '35 Women Under 35' list.

Kate, who works in the Tunnelling team at UK construction, infrastructure and design business Morgan Sindall, was nominated for the award for her enthusiasm and passion for civil engineering.

Kate joined Morgan Sindall in 2002 as an undergraduate civil engineer and is currently working on the designs for Crossrail projects with responsibility for £45 million of instrumentation and monitoring requirements.

In addition to her project work, Kate is a dedicated ambassador for civil engineering. In 2008 she established the British Tunnelling Society Young Members Committee, providing a voice for younger industry members. Kate has also been instrumental in the development and successful launch of the UK’s first MSc Tunnelling and Underground Space at Warwick University as well as promoting careers in the engineering industry to school pupils.

Kate said: "I was both shocked and delighted to hear that I had made the list as the past calibre of nominees was so strong. I am honoured to receive this award and delighted that the engineering profession has been recognised.

"Morgan Sindall has been a great support to me in my development and has been key in encouraging new recruits into the industry to ensure a continued resource of skilled employees for the future."
