College Calls On Housebuilder To Put Students Through Interview Paces

Lovell has teamed up with North East Worcestershire College to help prepare the next generation of tradesmen for life in the construction industry.

With the current economic climate meaning jobs are at a premium, the College and Lovell decided to address interview skills as their first project together.

Lovell took along to the College its Craft Training Advisor, Regional Training Advisor and three management trainees, who conducted the interviews. Six students were invited to take part in a mock interview where they could practise their interview skills in a real interview environment.

Apprentice carpenter Jordan Adams, 16, commented: "It was an eye-opener but really useful for preparing us as we apply for a job," while Taylor Catullo, 16 and also an apprentice carpenter, added: "I’ve realised you need to be prepared and know what to say about yourself so you can go into the interview confident."

Andrew Moule, Programme Area Manager for Construction, said: "We're grateful to Lovell who have been very proactive in setting this up. Students have been able to meet employers and individuals already in the industry, learning what it is really like to work in construction from those who know. In these interviews, they have learnt that once they're in there, they're on their own so need to do their research and develop their confidence. We look forward to working with Lovell on further opportunities."
