Telford & Wrekin Council has announced the appointment of Shepherd Construction Ltd as the council's contractor for the next phase of its Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Programme.
The first school in this phase is the complete rebuild of the Ercall Wood Technology College in Wellington.
Outline planning consent for this project was granted in June this year. It is for the construction of a new 900 place, state of the art secondary school and later demolition of the existing school buildings.
The replacement buildings will provide additional sporting facilities and encourage community use and the site has been designed to relieve traffic congestion on Golf Links Lane and other local roads.
The design of the school includes a three storey teaching building. A model of the school design will now be on display for the public to view at a community drop in event at Ercall Wood Technology College on Wednesday 18 July from 4-6.30pm.
A detailed planning application for the proposed design will be submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council in the near future and comments on the proposals will be invited.
Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: "It is really exciting times for Telford & Wrekin as the BSF programme progresses and more schools are being significantly improved across the borough.
"We are pleased to announce Shepherd as our Building Schools for the Future contractor. This is a huge milestone in the programme that will see a further five secondary schools across the borough completely rebuilt and another three remodelled.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the other construction firms who expressed a keen interest in our Building Schools for the Future programme."
If the application is approved, it is anticipated that work will start on site early next year.
