At the beginning of the year, Rhonda Cynon Taff Council wanted to update the facilities on offer to the local community at Treherbert Park in Treorchy. The council felt that the current facilities on offer weren’t up to scratch and as there are very few amenities in the local area they wanted the park to be as good as it could be with different surfaces available to cater for a wider range of sports and activities.
The officer for RCT council, Kevin Huish, selected two Playrite products to be installed alongside new fencing that was completed by South Wales Sports Grounds. The surfaces chosen were Conqueror 50, a 3g synthetic football grass and Matchplay 2 in terracotta; an excellent, durable, all weather surfaces suitable for a multitude of sports.
Conqueror 50 is an outdoor sports surface that is filled with sand and rubber. 3G surfaces such as Conqueror look like grass and offers similar playing characteristics. The rubber infill allows studded boots to be used for extra grip, in addition to providing extra shock absorption and the surface meets FIH, FIFA 1 Star equivalent IATS performance standard and EN15330 Part 1.
Matchplay 2 is an ideal choice for multi use games areas and can offer high performance and durability for a range of sports, particularly netball and tennis. The built in cushion layer makes for medium-paced play and is easy on player's leg joints. Inlaid lines can be permanently added in white, yellow, red and blue. High level porosity, low maintenance and all weather usage are an added value, which in return maximises playing time and increases potential revenue, and the surface is classified to ITF Category 2 Medium Slow and meets EN15330 Part 2
The project took around 3 weeks to complete from start to finish and the council are thrilled with the transformation and the difference the new park has made to the local community.
