Kier's process & engineering business is celebrating following the presentation of a British Council for Offices (BCO) Award to the new Greater Manchester Police Force headquarters building.
Kier worked closely with the project team, led by Carillion for Ask and Goodman Developments, to deliver £12.6m of M&E services on a design & build basis, contributing to the "optimum working environment" that led to the building winning the Best Corporate Workplace category at the BCO’s Northern Awards.
The judges' feedback on the night was outstanding and is testament to all the hard work from the team that delivered the highly sophisticated £64m flagship project: "It is a development that perfectly encapsulates how a building can act as a positive symbol of identity externally, whilst internally providing an environment that brings out the wholesale changes in working practices."
Services provided by Kier at the HQ include:
Installation of ultra efficient heating and cooling systems
Reduced water consumption
Solar hot water heaters
Installation of a 2.7MVA standby generator to supply 100% of the building’s energy in the event of the mains failure.
Lighting to all open-plan office areas and cellular offices is controlled by local passive infrared (PIR) sensors. Daylight use dimming is installed to the office areas as an energy saving facility.
