Environment Minster, John Griffiths, has announced grants totalling £348,052 for 31 community led Tidy Towns funded projects to improve local environment quality.

Grants encourage groups to work with other organisations to bring sustainable benefits to local neighbourhoods. Funding is being given to projects in 15 local authorities.

Groups set to benefit include:

•Cyngor Cymuned Llanwnda in Gwynedd who are being granted £30,000 to improve accessibility and security on a footpath linking the Nantlle Valley to Tryfan Junction.

•Llanfynydd Community Council in Carmarthenshire will get £4,070 for the conversion of unusable land into a community orchard.

•Graig y Rhacca Communities First in Caerphilly who are receiving over £22,000 to transform an area blighted by fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour into a community allotment.

Commenting on the grants, Environment Minister, John Griffiths, said: "I am delighted to announce funding to improve the local environment of people across the country. These grants are another example of my commitment to improve the local environments of people living in Welsh cities, towns and villages."
