Baroness Greengross OBE has backed leading support service provider Carillion''s latest Annual Sustainability Report with a key-note speech at a high profile launch held in the Houses of Commons.
The Chair of The Parliamentary Corporate Responsibility Group joined more than 100 guests at the event hosted by Wolverhampton South West MP Paul Uppal and Carillion's Chief Sustainability Officer Tom Robinson.
Carillion published its first environment report in 1999 and is widely regarded as a leader on sustainability across the support services and construction sectors.
The Midlands-based company has now set out a strategy detailing its commitment to sustainability for the period to 2020 on key areas such as supporting sustainable communities, building low carbon economies and protecting the environment.
Baroness Greengross said: "I applaud companies like Carillion who have a clear and unwavering focus on community support.
"It is a prime example of how, by working closely with their partners and supply chain, companies with a responsible sustainability strategy can support initiatives such Business Action on Homelessness, which seek to give training, employment and hope to some of the most marginalised in society."
Mr Uppal added: "The report by Carillion shows that placing sustainability at the heart of policy and decision-making is not only right for the environment and our communities, but will also drive future growth and prosperity for businesses. As a Wolverhampton MP I welcome such a leading position on sustainability being taken by a local company. What they are aiming to achieve through this strategy launch can be hugely beneficial at a constituency as well as a national and international level, and I wish them every success."
