A former nursery and garden centre site on Barkby Road, Syston is set to be transformed into a brand new affordable housing development.
Loughborough-based contractor and developer, William Davis Ltd is working in partnership with asra Housing Group to provide 39 one, two, three and four bedroom family homes for shared ownership or market rent. Work is now underway on the £3.5m scheme which will also include a public open space area and cycle path to link the development with the wider private housing scheme previously completed by William Davis Homes.
Richard Cornes, partnerships director, William Davis said: "It is always pleasing to see the first spade in the ground of a new project, particularly in light of the continual changing landscape of the construction sector. We are pleased to once again be working alongside asra Housing Group and now keenly anticipate the creation of sustainable family homes for local people."
The homes at Barkby Road will be built to achieve a Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 via fabric improvements including additional insulation and energy efficient windows and doors.
Lisa Culhane, group head of development and regeneration, asra Housing Group added: "Barkby Road is our first scheme on site for what will be an 800 affordable homes programme. The location is ideal and we have worked closely with William Davis to meet the design requirements of the local authority. There has been a real partnership approach to benchmarking and cost savings which is paramount under the new grant regime."
