A key public building in Alsager is now under the ownership of the town council.
Alsager Civic Centre is the first of a number of assets to be transferred to Alsager Town Council.
It forms part of Cheshire East Council's programme of transfer and devolution of assets and services and follows productive talks between the two authorities to complete the move, which is in keeping with the Government’s localism agenda.
Cheshire East and Alsager town councils are now working closely together to ensure the Alsager Wednesday Market, four allotment sites, Crewe Road public conveniences and the town council offices in Lawton Road are transferred.
Councillor Rachel Bailey, Cabinet member in charge of communities and regulatory services, said: "Alsager Town Council has remained committed to the transfer of assets programme and I am pleased that the transfer of this important local facility is now complete.
"I am confident that the civic centre will be successfully managed by the town council and we believe it is best placed to run it for the benefit of the people of Alsager.
"Cheshire East Council is mindful that all town and parish councils need to be in a fit and proper position before they can hit the ground running with the transfer of assets and services and we will continue to work positively with them."
