North East construction company Willmott Dixon has dug deep to help a local charity regenerate a community allotment in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

The company provided a mini digger and construction equipment for its contractors to create new pathways to improve access for people using the Oxnam Crescent allotment in Newcastle.

The work, undertaken on behalf of Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle (STAN), was part of the Business in the Community Initiative ‘Give and Gain Day', which focused on the Wingrove and Elswick areas of Newcastle.

Give and Gain Day last year saw over 27,500 employee volunteers from 535 companies inject £3.3 million man hours into needy communities across the country.

This year's local initiative was an urban project providing an opportunity for a range of volunteering jobs on the day which employees could get involved in and attracted over 150 volunteers from 15 businesses.

Willmott Dixon Group is one of the UK's largest privately owned capital works, regeneration and support services companies.

The company, which was recently named ‘Contractor of the Year' by Constructing Excellence in the North East, is currently onsite building the new Police Station at Forth Banks Newcastle.

Employees from its partners J Hughes Construction also gave their time to help out on the allotment regeneration project.
