Mansell has won a contract worth £6.8 million to build student accommodation at Girton College, one of the largest colleges at the University of Cambridge.
The design and build project to create a new residential wing at Ash Court, on the main College site at Huntingdon Road, includes 50 en-suite study bedrooms (six of which will have full disabled access), student kitchens and a gym complex. The work also features refurbishment and external rebuilding of the college’s Grade II listed swimming pool and landscaping of Ash Court.
Set to achieve a BREEAM "Excellent" rating, the development will benefit from electricity-generating photovoltaic cells on the roof, ground-source heat pumps and heat recovery from the room ventilation system, which will play a major part in the College’s strategy for reducing its carbon footprint.
The new accommodation will provide enhanced facilities for students and conference guests.
Project Management, Cost Consultancy and CDM-C services will be provided by the Sweett Group, with Allies and Morrison, Max Fordham and Fluid Structures working as consultants.
