The first homes at Barratt's new energy efficient Hanham Hall development near Bristol are now well under way with a summer launch planned for the showhome complex.
The latest computer generated imagery illustrates how the 185 homes and refurbished Hanham Hall, a Grade II listed building, will complement its surroundings.
Set within 12 acres of open landscape, the homes will benefit from an area of green space running through the heart of the development, it will link directly into the cycle network and there are spaces for children to play.
As one of only two developments of its type in the UK, Hanham Hall has attracted huge interest.
David Bond, Technical Director at Barratt, said: "Within the industry it is seen as a roadmap for future sustainable, energy efficient living. The key is to make the homes practical and affordable to run, through a fabric first approach, so that the features can be replicated in future developments throughout the country to meet the anticipated 2016 Zero Carbon Building Regulation standards. With this in mind, over the past 18 months the development has been realigned to comply with the anticipated Government policy for 2016, which was supported in the Plan for Growth announced in the 2011 budget.
"The new policy reduced the UK’s carbon emission target from approximately 150% to 100% for items like water heating, space heating and lighting. This means we no longer need to account for energy used in domestic appliances, such as fridge freezers, washing machines and TVs. The result is that the on-site energy centre that was proving to be inefficient on this scale and a significant long term burden to the occupiers is no longer required."
