The glazed atrium houses a reception and cafe Kier Construction is celebrating winning the Community Benefit category at last night’s North West Regional RICS Award 2012 for its £10.4m Heywood Sports, Culture and Leisure Village project.
The Community Benefit category recognises outstanding achievement in providing a facility which directly benefits the local community, and the project must illustrate its success through local community feedback.
The recently completed Sports, Culture and Leisure Village in Heywood replaced a dated swimming pool and sports hall with new facilities including a 25-metre swimming pool, learner pool, sports hall, fitness suite, dance studios, steam rooms, youth gym and training and community rooms, a new 4G artificial turf pitch and improved natural turf pitches.
Since its official opening by HRH The Duke of Gloucester, the new Leisure Village has proved to be hugely popular with local people, smashing all previous usage records with gym membership going up from just 400 at the old leisure centre to 4,500 at the new facilities.
Having won at the regional awards, the project will now go forward to the national Grand Final held in London later this year.
