Two of Plymouth City Council's partnership housing projects are through to the finals of the prestigious UK Housing Awards.

The George House homeless hostel and the regeneration project, Ker Street Phase 1 and 2A are finalists in the category, 'Development of the Year - Large Schemes'.

George House was commissioned by the Council and opened in August last year by BCHA to provide vital temporary accommodation to Plymouth’s most vulnerable people. As well as providing shelter, George House was designed to be a 'Place of Change', where residents are able to access support and learn new skills, to ensure they can move on to greater independence, education and work opportunities.

The award submission highlighted the many community gains including tackling homelessness, creating jobs, learning and training opportunities and the high levels of design and build quality.

The Ker Street redevelopment is a significant part of the ongoing regeneration of Devonport and is being co-ordinated and partly funded by the Council in partnership with Devon and Cornwall Housing Group with Westco and Linden Homes.

The development includes shared ownership and rented houses and apartments built to the highest levels of design and construction quality. It has been tailored to meet the widest range of housing need and the scheme is in high demand.
