Kier Worker Scoops RICS London Student Award 2012

Kier Services employee Daniel Morris has been awarded the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) London Student Award 2012 for his outstanding work on the BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying course at the University of Westminster.

The university nominated 28-year-old Danny for the award, which recognises students in London who have demonstrated excellence in their built environment course, because of the consistently high results he gained throughout the five-year course.

The ceremony took place at the Chelsea Old Town Hall and was attended by other award winners as well as leading industry representatives.

Danny, a quantity surveyor based at Kier’s Basingstoke office, has worked with Kier for six years and says the support of his team was one of the reasons he did so well.

Commenting on his award, Danny said: "I put a lot of time and effort into my university work, but was very surprised to get a call to say that I had been nominated for the award. It is great to be recognised and feels like the icing on the cake for all the hard work that I put into my course.

"I was able to integrate my practical experience and knowledge as part of the course, for example Kier uses a rainwater harvesting system which formed the basis of my dissertation in the final year."

Kier supports its employees through university by providing revision days for upcoming exams and by being as flexible as possible in giving holidays to those with imminent deadlines.

Kier is continuing to work with students in an effort to help support the next generation of workers in the built environment industry.
