Mansell has won a contract worth £3.4 million to build the new TNG My Place in Sydenham for the London Borough of Lewisham.
The design and build project comprises the demolition of the existing church hall and construction of a three-storey youth centre with part basement. The architects are RCKa.
A range of facilities will benefit young people including a multi-use hall and dance studio, training kitchen, café, IT / education zone, consultation rooms, youth forum, indoor climbing wall, music studio, multi-use games area and communal gathering areas.
The youth centre incorporates a number of innovations such as CLT timber wall structure, translucent rainscreen cladding to external walls, solar panels and an ETFE (ethylene tetraflouro-ethylene) foil cushion roof system to allow natural light into the building. Energy efficiency elements will help TNG My Place achieve a BREEAM “Very Good” rating.
Work has just commenced and is expected to conclude early in 2013.
