Neil Grinham, a third year graduate engineer employed by Costain and who has worked on South Wales projects at Church Village and Rhydyfelin in Rhondda Cynon Taff, has received a top award from the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (Wales).

For the second year in succession a Costain graduate engineer was awarded the CECA Wales Most Promising Trainee Civil Engineering Award.

Rhodri–Gwynn Jones, a Director of CECA, said: "CECA Wales is once again proud to have sponsored the ‘Trainee Engineer of the Year’ Awards 2012 and it was very fitting that the award itself was presented by the Welsh Government’s Deputy Minister for Skills, Jeff Cuthbert AM. His support and commitment and that of the Welsh Government to the training of new entrants into civil engineering industry is crucial if it is to survive and prosper into the future. CECA extends its gratitude to all member companies who provide the necessary opportunities to encourage new entrants and provide training opportunities, particularly in the current economic climate."

In assessing the awards, CECA Wales sought evidence of the candidates’ development and potential and their capacity and hunger for the tasks ahead of them. Neil fully matched these expectations and is indeed a worthy winner in 2012.
