MP Buries Time Capsule At New Housing Scheme In Bedford

Richard Fuller, Member of Parliament for Bedford and Kempston, joined Orbit Heart of England and Mansell Construction Services Ltd representatives to bury a time capsule on the site of the former St Bedes school, where the construction of a new £13.6 million housing scheme is underway.

The time capsule contains a poem from Orbit Heart of England’s Managing Director, Stewart Fergusson, as well as information about the site's history, school memorabilia, a copy of the Bedford Times and a national newspaper from the day of the burial, and details about the new development.

The scheme is being built for Orbit Homes and received £4.5 million investment from the Homes and Communities Agency.

Lorraine Mansfield, Business Development Manager at Orbit Heart of England, said: "We were pleased to welcome Richard to the site to see the excellent progress that’s being made and to help us bury the time capsule. This development is hugely significant for the area, as it will provide much-needed affordable housing for local people aged over 55.

"Working in partnership with construction firm, Mansell, we are refurbishing two Victorian villas to form offices and communal facilities - including a restaurant, hairdressing salon and cinema - alongside 104 one and two-bedroom apartments. 53 of the apartments will be available for shared ownership.

"The development will also feature assistive technologies that can be incorporated into apartments as and when they are needed."
