Plans Unveiled For Cycle Hub

Plans for a £400,000 cycle hub with a cycle shop, maintenance workshop, CCTV monitored indoor secure bike parking and a controlled access system for Peckham Rye Station have been unveiled.

Cllr Barrie Hargrove, cabinet member for transport, environment and recycling, said: "This is yet another example of Southwark Council's commitment to supporting the borough's cyclists, those who use bikes to commute through the borough and those who would like to 'bike it' but don't yet.

"This centre will provide secure indoor parking, keeping bikes safe from the weather as well as would-be thieves. It will also include a repair workshop and bike shop, providing a full service to cyclists in and around the area.

He continued: "This project is part of Southwark Council's strategy to make the borough one of the 'bike friendliest' in the capital within five years."

Subject to planning permission, work on the cycle hub would start later this year and be completed by April 2013.

The funding for the project is coming from Southwark Council, the Department of Transport and Transport for London with Southern Railways managing the delivery of the cycle hub.
