Four New Environmentally Friendly Homes Unveiled

In Northfield, Birmingham, the halfway stage has been reached in the 26 house building development under the city council's award winning house building scheme – the Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust (BMHT) with four more new homes being unveiled.

The 12 properties in the south of the city will be located on Ingoldsby and Overbury Road. The Northfield housing development is part of the local authority's big house building push, currently over 1,300 council houses are in various stages of completion.

All houses within the development are built to a high quality spec, are modern, spacious and include environmentally friendly features which will help residents to save energy and money on their bills. The rest of the new homes are due for completion within four weeks.

Cllr John Lines, Birmingham City Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "It gives me great pleasure to see the completion of more new, quality, council family homes. Despite the economic climate Birmingham is still building social housing, which is a testament to our dedication to provide high quality homes in the city.

The homes have been built in a City Council identified priority area for regeneration. The council has worked with local residents over a number of years to agree selected demolition of unpopular properties and also improved their existing stock under the Decent Homes programme. To continue the regeneration initiative the local authority has invested a further £2.6m to deliver much needed two – five bedroom houses for rent, which have been built without the assistance of external funding.

The housing development is an example of working in partnership with house builders Lovell.
