BAM Construction in the Midlands has been chosen to deliver a £33 million retail and residential regeneration building project in Shirley, West Midlands on behalf of Shirley Advance, a joint venture between Helical Bar and Coltham Developments.
BAM has its head offices in Coventry and has delivered hundreds of millions of pounds worth of new facilities across the Midlands.
As well as an 85,000 sq ft (7,897 sq m) ASDA superstore, BAM will also build 70,000 sq ft of additional retail space providing about 20 new retail units and a 500+ space underground car park. The development will also include 27 three bedroom townhouses and 56 one and two bedroom apartments, for a mix of private and affordable housing. Once completed the development will have an end value of c£85 million.
The project originated in 2004 and the team has had to carefully navigate a series of planning hurdles to come to the market. It is now due to start on site in the Spring of 2012, with completion scheduled by Spring 2014.
