The Leadbitter Group has completed the construction of 18 one and two bedroom apartments on Wordsworth Drive in Taunton for Knightstone Housing Association.
The affordable apartments are built to the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and have been made available for rent and rent to homebuy.
This is the first in a series of four projects the company is undertaking in the Taunton area in conjunction with long-time client Knightstone. Delivering a total of 126 units, worth £12.2 million, the projects will make a significant contribution to the regeneration of the town. The new dwellings will replace existing 1950s and 1960s era housing stock with a mixture of three and four bedroom houses and two bedroom apartments available for affordable rent and shared ownership.
The projects, which have received funding from Taunton Deane Borough Council and the Homes and Communities Agency, as well as private finance from Knightstone, are also generating job opportunities for willing subcontractors in the area who can apply to work with Leadbitter on this and further developments.
Russell Houghton, Regional Director of Leadbitter's Western Housing division, said: "We are delighted to be building on our already strong relationship with Knightstone Housing Association while expanding our geographic range into the Taunton area. The completion of the apartments on Wordsworth Drive is just the beginning of Leadbitter’s positive presence in the town, and we hope to continue to provide similarly high quality, sustainable housing developments that will genuinely benefit the local people."
