A new £4.1 million development of 36 eco-friendly homes for rent has been opened at Rice Lane and Springfield Place in Wallasey.

Residents and local school representatives joined members of Cosmopolitan Housing Association, Wirral Council and the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA), to witness the unveiling of a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.

Previously a street of terraced houses dating back to 1919, the site has been redeveloped by Cosmopolitan Housing Association and Lovell Partnerships Ltd to provide 36 new homes that include a mix of two, three and four-bedroom bungalows and houses.

Each home has:

• its own parking space

• rear garden

• solar panels to provide hot water

• smart meters that measure gas and electricity

• automatic meter reading water meters.

The development meets Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the Lifetime Homes standard and Secured by Design standards.

Christine Hill, Area Manager for the HCA, said: "I'm pleased we have been able to work so closely with Cosmopolitan Housing Association and Wirral Council to support this important development. We share our partners' views that this great scheme will help continue the transformation of the area while trailblazing the merits of sustainable living."
