Kier Stoke Sends In The Green Team

Kier Stoke operatives to pass on 'green' knowledge as part of Kier Stoke's ongoing commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of its business and that of its customers, nine members of staff have undergone ‘green champion’ training.

Organised by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, the training consisted of an interactive session to provide an understanding of the corporate statutory responsibilities that govern authorities, such as the Council, as well as hints and tips on green living to be passed on to customers to help reduce their utility bills through a suite of informational leaflets.

The Kier Stoke employees, from various parts of the business, all have daily interaction with tenants and residents within their homes. Armed with their new knowledge, the green champions can offer tenants simple advice to not only help them financially by reducing energy consumption, but ultimately also contribute to the city’s overall carbon reduction.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has committed to contribute towards the UK Government's legally binding CO2 emissions reduction targets of 34 per cent by 2020 and 80 per cent by 2050.

It is making fuel security a top priority for the city in order to alleviate fuel poverty among residents. It aims to create a greener city to attract new investment and stimulate job creation while protecting existing jobs.

Kier Regional Managing Director, David Mawson, said: "Carbon management is essential for the future of our business and to make a positive contribution to our local environment. We take our environmental responsibility very seriously and we’re always looking for ways to improve our service. We look forward to passing on our ‘green knowledge’ to tenants in the area."

Internally, the business is encouraging its employees to recycle all waste metal products and has created a Carbon Improvement Team to work in house raising awareness of the importance of carbon reduction.
