Contractors have started work to improve safety along Clarkes Lane and Sandbeds Road, Willenhall.
The £90,000 scheme, being carried out in partnership between Walsall Council and Tarmac National Contracting, started on Monday 6 February and should be completed at the end of the month, weather permitting.
Clarkes Lane will be narrowed between Durham Avenue and Walsall Road through the introduction of two refuges which will also act as a safe crossing point for residents.
The scheme will also increase the right hand storage capacity on the approach to the signal junction with Walsall Road.
Key junctions on the stretch will be highlighted through the use of road marking with a product called 'Weatherline' which makes the lines more visible in both wet and dry conditions. Additional signs will also be erected.
Consultation packs outlining proposed improvements were delivered to 174 residents in Clarkes Lane and Sandbeds Road and comments received helped shape the final scheme.
