According to new research from E.ON, nearly half (42%) of us have experienced boiler problems during the winter meaning a staggering 11 million households could be left without heating or hot water in our coldest temperatures.

In the midst of the winter weather E.ON has equipped its central heating technicians with four wheel drives, road tested in the North Pole, to reach homes left in the cold in all conditions.

Chris McLain, Head of Home Energy Services at E.ON, said: "Being left without heating when your boiler fails is distressing and potentially life threatening for our vulnerable customers. Being equipped with the right vehicles to reach our customers no matter what this winter throws at us is vitally important.

"It's worrying that almost half of us don’t know what to do if our heating fails, so I’d encourage people to be prepared and have a look at our website for tips and advice on how to solve some of the simpler boiler faults we come across."
