The deadline for applications for the next round of the council’s Eco Fund grant scheme is 14 February, 2012.

The Eco Fund is available to individuals and groups in the borough that can demonstrate good ways to become greener.

The council will give a share of the £5000 grant pot to people who can think of a way to reduce waste, increase recycling, cut the consumption of energy or resources, or improve the quality of the local environment.

Examples could include buying a wood chipper to be shared between a group of neighbours, starting a community composting scheme or organising 'give and take' exchange days so that unwanted items are given away instead of binned.

Grants are also available from the Western Riverside Environmental Fund (WREF) for projects that work with local communities to promote environmental improvements and sustainable waste management. Examples could include setting up 'pocket parks' or community gardens. The deadline for the next round of applications is 27 February.
