Southampton's Tallest Building Gets Approval

A plan to create Southampton's tallest building and more than 299 new homes in Ocean Village has taken another step forward.

Southampton City Council recommended that the scheme, by Southampton-based Allied Developments which aims to change the face of Ocean Village with an iconic 26 storey building and two other buildings, which will mark the final element of regeneration in the area, should be approved.

The plan for the area known as Admirals Quay includes three striking high quality residential buildings, the tallest of which is set to be Southampton’s tallest with 26-storeys. The scheme, containing 299 dwellings, will be connected at ground level with and an elevated terrace with provision for up to eight restaurants and seating spilling out onto the promenade, with residents enjoying a high landscaped terrace at the second floor level.

There will be a total of 2764 square metres of commercial floor space which will include retail, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Councillor Royston Smith, Leader of the Southampton City Council, said: "This is fantastic news. Ocean village will finally be able to live up to its potential, and combined with the plans for Royal Pier, Southampton’s waterfront will be comparable to any in Europe.

"The 26 storey building will be iconic and new jobs and the boost to the economy from this development is warmly welcomed. Southampton City Council is prioritising the creation of new jobs in the city and will continue to do so."

Some final details now need to be finally agreed before full planning permission is granted, however this is not expected to take very long.
