The Leadbitter Group has started work on a new development of affordable housing in Saltash, Cornwall, which it is constructing on behalf of Tamar Housing Society.

The nine affordable homes on Alamein Road, which will be built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, were awarded to Leadbitter after the successful completion of similar developments for Tamar around the South West, including the Housing Society's new build project in Treburley, Launceston, in Cornwall, completed 18 months ago.

The nine terraced homes will comprise four three-bedroom and five two-bedroom houses, built with a traditional block construction, that complement existing properties within the area. Solar photovoltaic panels will also be installed to generate electricity, saving energy and reducing the tenants’ fuel bills.

Charlie Scherer, Regional Director of Leadbitter's South West Housing division, said: "We are delighted that Tamar Housing Society has recognised Leadbitter's experience and expertise in delivering housing projects of this kind. As a company, we know the Saltash area well, having already constructed some 30 homes in the area, and we will leverage our local knowledge to provide high quality, affordable houses for local people."
