Newbridge Leisure Centre is the second project that has seen Playrite, South Wales Sports Grounds and Caerphilly District Council working together to create a state of the art artificial pitch using 3G surface Conqueror 40.
The first project was at Heolddu Leisure Centre in Mid Glamorgan and the centre has already reported a massive increase of users surpassing even the best figures experienced with the old surface.
At Newbridge, the surface was originally needlepunch and had been installed for well over 12 years. Towards the end of its life the surface had begun to deteriorate and had lost many of the original characteristics the surface had previously provided. Some areas of the old surface had become slippery and Caerphilly District Council had concerned that the pitch may be deemed unusable. It was soon decided that the leisure centre required a new surface and as the work at Heolddu Leisure Centre finished, South Wales Sports Grounds moved on to Newbridge where the old surface was stripped and replaced by Playrite’s Conqueror 40.
Conqueror 40 is a 3G surface that is an excellent choice for football, hockey and multi sport. Overall, Newbridge Leisure Centre had approximately 3600m² of the artificial surface installed, which meets FIH and IATS performance standards as well as EN 15330 part 1, alongside Playrite's Matchpad 2250 underlay which was installed underneath. This time the leisure centre opted to have lines marked onto the surface as opposed to being inlaid during installation due to the number of different uses and sports that the facility provides.
