Wates Living Space has confirmed it has been tasked with building 466 new high quality affordable homes for rent across Kirklees.
Together with Regenter and Pinnacle PSG, Wates forms part of the Regenter Excellent Homes for Life consortium, which achieved financial close on Kirklees Council's Housing PFI project.
The project includes the new build of 140 homes for older people within three extra care housing schemes offering care and support, 291 one and two bedroom homes for small households and 35 homes specifically designed for wheelchair users. The new homes will be built on 27 sites across Kirklees.
Wates Living Space will deliver the homes over a 30-month construction programme with work on the first 12 sites commencing immediately. Other sites will follow over the next two and half years. Services will be delivered by Pinnacle PSG and will include housing and tenancy management, cleaning, grounds and waste management, helpdesk, responsive repairs, planned and cyclical maintenance and lifecycle replacement. Provision will ramp up with handover of each site and will continue for 20 years after the last site is completed.
As part of its work in Kirklees, Wates will be actively engaging with the local community in order to provide tangible training opportunities and maximize the impact of the scheme upon the local economy. This will include the creation of eight apprentice opportunities, 18 trainee positions and the annual provision of four one-week work placements throughout the course of the project.
