Renovation Scheme Starts On West Hoe Pier

The first phase of a project to restore and protect Plymouth's historic West Hoe Pier is underway.

Initial ground investigations are being carried out to fully assess the condition of the pier. This will establish what improvement works need to be carried out to make it safe and more robust against the elements, as well as bring it back into public use.

Once the survey is complete Plymouth Transport and Highways (the partnership between Plymouth City Council and Amey) will be able to develop a detailed programme of improvement works. This is planned to begin in Spring 2012 when the worst of the winter weather has subsided.

The Council has set aside £750,000 for the project, which was approved by Cabinet earlier this year.
