Miller Awarded £6.8m Contract To Deliver Sixth Form College

Middlesbrough College has appointed Miller Construction to deliver its new £6.8 million Sixth Form College and works have already started on site.

The new Sixth Form Centre 'MC6' will specialise in AS and A Levels, providing students from across the Tees Valley, access to some of the best teaching facilities the UK.

The contract - part of the college's plans for education in the area - is a new build incorporating the preserved façade of one of the town’s historic Victorian buildings which will add character and interest to the centre.

Ian Jubb, Regional Managing Director – North, Miller Construction, said: "We are delighted to be undertaking works on behalf of Middlesbrough College to deliver their new Sixth Form Centre. Miller Construction prides itself on its reputation in the delivery of exceptional learning environments. We look forward to building a successful partnership with the college, which will see us deliver outstanding facilities for students and staff alike."

Due for completion in September 2012, the new Sixth Form Centre will provide 13 classrooms, tutorial rooms, staff and administrative office space, an IT suite, a student lounge, café, and sports facilities, including a full size flood lit astro-turf pitch. It is anticipated the new centre will attract 300 more students into AS and A Levels in the town and allow the College to offer a wider range of subjects.

Miller Construction also will work with the College to encourage students to become involved in the project by offering opportunities to learn about the construction industry whilst promoting construction as a career choice.
