Mansell has handed over the iconic Engineering and Science Learning Centre to the University of Nottingham on time and on budget.

Set within the heart of the University Park campus science area, a large central glazed atrium is the focal point of the three-storey, high-specification development. The learning centre provides a range of flexible spaces including seminar rooms, a student centre, computer laboratory, graduate centre, social space and ancillary accommodation.

The project was designed to meet BREEAM "Excellent" standards, achieved through the use of a number of innovative sustainable methods including, thermal mass of exposed concrete frame, a ground source heat pump, district heating system, lighting controls and enhanced U values and air tightness.

The concrete frame is made from locally recycled aggregate. An ETFE (Ethylene TetraFlouro-Ethylene), foil cushion roof system has been used to allow natural light into the building. The visual impact of the design is outstanding and is ecologically efficient due to the low maintenance costs associated with the design.

Mansell was awarded a further contract to refurbish the Coates Building Cafe and Telford Exhibition area providing modern catering experiences for students and staff.
