Finance Minister, Jane Hutt saw how £4.2 million of Welsh Government funding is providing new affordable sustainable homes of the very best standard for people in Ystrad Mynach.

During her visit to the Cwm Calon project in Ystrad Mynach the Minister saw the finishing touches being put to a United Welsh scheme which will provide 55 new homes.

Ms Hutt said: "By providing funding to projects such as Cwm Calon the Welsh Government is ensuring that the construction industry in Wales is being supported. During the lifetime of this project over 120 construction workers have worked on the site, with a large proportion of the workforce coming from the local area.


"It is crucial that we give young people the opportunity to develop their skills and give them the opportunity to build a career. That’s why I was so delighted that the Cwm Calon project has provided work placements for six local trainees including three bricklayers and three carpenters."

Commenting on the Welsh Government’s successful ARBED scheme Ms Hutt added: "Building sustainable homes while also providing new job opportunities for Wales' green economy is a key part of our ARBED scheme.

"Homes across Wales are benefitting from the installation of energy saving and renewable energy generating technology thanks to this funding."
