The Driver CPC Qualification, which will be require all drivers who operate vehicles over 3.5 ton to complete 35 hours of classroom based training by September 2014, is here to stay say the DSA and VOSA. Each Driver is required to complete 5 days of training each lasting 7 hours which once a month may be fine but if they had to be off the road for 5 consecutive days it will be very damaging to the company.

In a recent news letter VOSA said: "The freight industry should not leave the mandatory Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) training too late, for they may run the risk of having to park-up their vehicles if drivers have not carried out their training in time".

The authorities have done the calculations and are now estimating a huge bottleneck as the demand exceeds the number of accredited trainers. In addition to this the prices are set to skyrocket as training centres need to run 7 days a week."
