Contractors Confirm Completion Date For Plymouth Life Centre

The main contractor for the Plymouth Life Centre has confirmed a final completion date for the new facility.

Balfour Beatty has announced it will be officially handing the building over to Everyone Active on Monday 27 February 2012.

The Council received written confirmation that there would be a revised contract completion date, following a comprehensive programme review. Balfour Beatty said this 'is due to a number of factors including delays in obtaining materials from mainland Europe and sequencing issues associated with the complex services installation'.

The Council and Everyone Active are now putting plans in place to open the brand new facility over the weekend of Friday 23 to Sunday 25 March 2012, following a period of internal fit-out and staff training.

Council Leader Vivien Pengelly said: "It's fantastic that we now have a planned opening date for the Plymouth Life Centre and people can finally start counting down the days to using this incredible facility.

"We are obviously disappointed that the centre will be opening a few weeks later than expected but we have to remember that this has been a major project to create a world-class facility that will cater for the city’s sporting needs for many years. You would normally expect projects of this scale to experience far greater setbacks than this."
