Construction of Bristol’s brand new, leisure facility at Hengrove Park Leisure Centre is keeping to the planned timetable.
The opening - on time and on budget - is set for Wednesday, February 29, 2012. To mark the occasion, a special exhibition about Hengrove Park Leisure Centre in south Bristol will be on display on Tuesday, November 22 in The Council House foyer entrance.
The flagship Hengrove Park Leisure Centre will be the third, brand new pool and leisure centre to open in Bristol in recent years, and its addition to the council's leisure offer is expected to double swimming in the city and significantly increase the number of people taking up regular fitness activities.
The Hengrove Park Leisure Centre is a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and is funded by £35.06 million private finance initiative credits from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
The principle contractor for the building works and kit out of the leisure centre is Kier. The 10-lane, 50-metre pool is of competition standard and holds a massive 2.9 million litres of water - that's approximately 640,000 gallons.
