Morgan Sindall has secured a £12.3 million contract to deliver the next phase of redevelopment at Old Trafford Cricket Ground.
The leading construction, infrastructure and design business will build two new grandstands with a combined capacity of more than 7,000 seats and a state-of-the-art four-storey player and media centre.
Ground-clearing work is already underway and the first foundations are now being laid. Work to this phase will be complete in the summer of 2012, well in time for the return of The Ashes to the Old Trafford Ground in 2013.
This is Morgan Sindall's second project for Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC), having built the £12 million conference and events venue, The Point, which opened last year.
Jim Cumbes, Chief Executive of Lancashire County Cricket Club, said: "2011 has been a very significant year for us. We've won the County Championship, secured the Ashes for 2013 and received the final seal of approval to proceed with our redevelopment.
"Our focus is now on transforming Old Trafford into a world-class venue and we're delighted to have a best-in-class construction partner to help us achieve that. I was absolutely delighted when Morgan Sindall won the contract through the OJEU process, as they did such an excellent job with The Point."
The contract is part of the Club's total £43 million investment in new facilities as well as an extension to the ground’s indoor cricket school and public areas. The development also includes a Tesco food store, which will occupy land nearby, and will bring investment of at least £70 million and over 500 jobs into Trafford.
