Morgan Sindall and VINCI Energies, through its joint venture MSVE Transmission, have been awarded preferred bidder status for a potential £500 million Electricity Transmission Overhead Line partnership to deliver National Grid's overhead line construction programme for the next five years.

The majority of the first year's work will involve the design and development for the work in years two to five. The first year will also include a project to replace the Quad Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) fittings on a 400kV overhead line.

In years two to five, the partnership's scope will include a variety of projects to refurbish and construct 400kV overhead lines and towers across England and Wales in order to develop and maintain efficient electricity networks.

Jeff Lang, managing director of Utility Services at Morgan Sindall, said: "We are looking forward to working in collaborative partnership with VINCI Energies and National Grid to ensure a secure electricity supply across the UK.

"The combination of our specialist skills and past experience in this sector provides us with the necessary expertise to successfully complete this project on time and to budget."

The year one mobilisation team will be in place from this November. From April 2012, the partnership will be managed from shared offices until the completion of year five.
