Speedy Unveils Winners Of Supplier Awards

One of the UK's leading provider of rental and support services, Speedy, has recognised the contribution made by some of their key suppliers through five awards presented at their staff conference recently held at the Telford International Centre.

The event was attended by more than 800 Speedy delegates and 140 major manufacturing and supply companies from the construction and associated industries.

The winners were decided through a combination of delegate votes and a judging panel of Speedy senior directors and sector specialists.

The first award of the evening went to the Youngman Group Limited, whose BoSS Cam-Lock Advance Guardrail received the most votes from Speedy delegates in "View From The Front" at last years conference.

"View From The Front" was introduced by Speedy to give their staff the chance to recommend new products that they would like to see included in their hire fleet. Many of the products voted for are now part of the Speedy fleet, but it was the Cam-Lock Advance Guardrail that polled the most votes and was highlighted as an exemplary way of improving health and safety on construction sites.

The next award was The Speedy Innovation award and this was given to the Hire Supply Company for their En-Save, Elite Energy Saving Transformer, which saves energy by enabling the power supply used to operate tools to be left on 'standby' when equipment is not in use.

It is estimated that the average user will save up to 2.1 kg of CO2 per day for each piece of equipment operated via the En-Save transformer.

Low impact environmental products are a critical selection factor for Speedy's supply chain team and so the Speedy Environmental Award, the award of the evening, had a lot of contenders. Environmental efficiency was main judging criteria and this went to the super-efficient VB9 lighting tower made by TowerLight UK. With a smaller diesel engine than traditional models, the VB9 typically reduces fuel usage by 72 per cent.

The final presentation was to the supplier who the judging team felt had shown close alignment with Speedy's values and who had worked hard to develop a successful and mutually rewarding business relationship. This award, The Strategic Supplier/Partner Award, went to Leica Geosystems who have been a valued supply partner for Speedy for more than 10 years.

Andy Connor, supply chain director at Speedy, said: "In order to supply our customers with the best equipment, we need to work with the best suppliers, and these awards are our way of saying thank you, as well as giving them the chance to shout about their most cutting edge products.

"The companies who took home awards this year all have one thing in common; they are working with us to create the equipment that we know our customers need – and that’s kit which gets them working safer, working greener and working more efficiently.

"Working closely with our suppliers means we're confident that Speedy can supply exactly what our customers need, when they need it."
