Kier Partnership Homes Confirmed For New Forest Homes

Construction News Image
Kier Partnership Homes has been chosen by Forest of Dean District Council to deliver the next stage of the regeneration of Cinderford and build almost 100 new and affordable homes over a two-year period.

Selected by the council and its partners, Cinderford Town Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), Kier will build 99 environmentally sustainable homes on the site of the council-owned Ensors abattoir in Valley Road. The proposed homes range from one-bedroom flats to rent to four-bedroom houses to buy.

The project is part of partners' wider plans to regenerate Cinderford by delivering new and affordable homes, jobs and improved educational facilities in the town. The HCA has supported the project by providing the council with a £2m investment, which enabled it to acquire the Ensors site and support the company’s relocation to new premises in Valley Road Industrial Park. This move will help safeguard around 130 local jobs.

HCA area manager Greg Morgan commented: "This is the latest step in the regeneration of Cinderford, which stands to benefit from a range of measures to bring new homes, jobs and improved education to the town. Our investment in this project has helped to unlock the Valley Road site for redevelopment and secures the long-term future of local jobs in the area, which is something that we are committed to. We are really pleased that a developer partner has been chosen for this project and look forward to seeing new homes delivered on this site when work starts next year."

All the new homes will be delivered to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, which is a higher standard of environmental sustainability than a traditionally built house. These high quality standards form a key part of the HCA’s work in the Forest. Of the new homes, 40 will be affordable and will be managed by Two Rivers Housing.

Chairman of the Cinderford Regeneration Board, Cllr Graham Morgan, said: "Building new houses at Valley Road is one of the Board’s priorities and we look forward to cutting the ribbon on this new, quality development. The standard of this development will really raise the bar for the type of investment we want in Cinderford."
