Household Automation has been involved with the Schneider electric Clipsal CBUS product range now for the best part of a decade. Clipsal CBUS has several advantages over other manufacturers.
Firstly the Saturn glass fronted switch plate range was one of the leaders in this aesthetic style and the DLT switch is as far as we are aware the only such LCD programmable display.
Blinds control is achieved by use of an inexpensive DIN mounted CBUS unit that can readily be set up to physically accommodate mains (dual windings) or low voltage (reverse polarity) connections.
CBUS has simple and very versatile BUS wiring. The wiring topology allows for many different situations the cable itself CBUS approved (pink), look similar to a CAT5 cable and we have seen many installations in the past (not recommended) that have had ordinary CAT 5 run to the switches and BUS components.
The CBUS toolkit programme offers basic functionality to anybody conversant with a PC but also offers the chance to expand the complexity of the project into scene setting, trigger groups and interfacing with third part devices such as the iphone or ipad.
If you have the correct interface then access to the components on the BUS does not require the original program files in order for the majority of the project to be extracted and worked on (names are only held within the original database).
Like any other system CBUS does have its drawbacks but if you after a reliable, relatively simple, aesthetically pleasing easily expandable solution then why not talk to Household Automation about your project requirements.
Household Automation has many Clipsal CBUS projects installed in a variety of different applications. We regularly attend homes with CBUS equipment that was installed by other companies and offer advanced programming facilities with Tookit, PICED and PAC programming.
