Mitchell Evans LLP have recently achieved a planning consent for a 50kW photovoltaic installation at Chilworth Manor in the Surrey Hills.
The property has undergone extensive renovation in recent years and the client has been particularly keen to benefit from the new alternative energy efficient technologies to provide both heat and power.
The 50kW installation completes the energy efficiency appraisal programme for the manor house. The installation is on a free standing framework, 40m x 8m, located within the Green Belt, in the grounds of a Listed Building and in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The local authority, whilst being positive when first approached, had several policy objections to the installation, due to the Green Belt and ANOB status. Extensive meetings were held with both the planning and conservation officers, where they outlined both the landscape and listed building issues. A planning consent was achieved incorporating an extensive landscaping improvement scheme, together with careful use of the natural topography of the land.
The installation is due to begin this month, September.
