E.ON, one of the UK's renewable generators, has begun the formal consultation process on plans for a new wind farm called The Isles in County Durham, and is urging local residents to comment..

The company has produced three potential layouts for the wind farm, which would be located near to Newton Aycliffe. The site could feature between 25 and 45 turbines, with a capacity of between 50MW and 115MW, generating enough electricity to power up to 53,000 homes a year1.

Paul Hunt, Project Manager for E.ON, said: "Now is the time to give us your views on this development. We understand the concerns of communities close to any potential development site and we're working very hard to factor all feedback into our over all proposal for the site.

"We consider ourselves to be a very responsible developer and we have a strong track record in the North East."

The formal Stage One consultation period for the project runs from 31st August until 7th October.
