Lovell has been chosen by Waterloo Housing Association, part of Waterloo Housing Group, to build the 150 new homes that will soon transform the Elizabeth Road estate in Cannock.
Lovell is adding its development expertise to the successful partnership between Waterloo, Cannock Chase Council and the government’s Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), which has already taken forward the extensive housing regeneration project including clearing vacant old properties in the first phase ready for the £15 million new build.
The project has the support of HCA funding through the Kickstart programme, aimed at high-quality housing schemes affected by market conditions.
Building work by Lovell starts in August to construct the first 50 new homes by spring 2012. These will feature 36 homes for rent, as well as homes to buy through shared ownership and to buy outright on the open market.
A further 100 affordable and attractive new homes, for both rent and sale, will follow, providing a huge boost to the area’s environment and local economy.
David Gough, Regional Director for Lovell in the Midlands, commented: "This is a wonderful opportunity to recreate this community and we look forward to working closely with local people, as well as Waterloo, Cannock Council and the HCA, in order to ensure we create a tight-knit new neighbourhood enjoying top-quality new homes. This project will bring a healthy mix of homes for affordable rent and home ownership.
"We will build the new homes in four phases so we will be in constant liaison with residents to ensure disruption is minimal. I am certain that they will be delighted with the results."
